Good But Can Be Frustrating
I have been on a quest to use the ipad for writing. iDocs has many features, and so far, offers the best mode of document portability by locally downloading documents.
The issue, and its a major one, is the apps instability. It requires constant saves not to lose work.
While moving in and out of the app, it sometimes closes the document Ive been working on and I have to select it again, hoping that I remembered to save when I left the program.
I purchased the option for DropBox. Once downloaded, the document is saved in local downloads. Good and bad, this means I have to remember to export the document to DropBox, otherwise, my other devices do not have access to the version Ive been working on. The good part is that the doc is available offline, which is essential for me. (This was my problem with CloudOn and ultimate dealbreaker, despite CloudOn offering more word processing functionality.)
Functionality Ive missed in the word program includes seeing pages & page numbers, inserting page breaks, indentation, ruler, paragraph styles, etc. Because of this, I have to go to another source to edit.
If I set a font other than its Courier default, the font box displays Courier - it is not accurate in terms of font or line spaces.
I am hanging in there with iDocs for ipad because it satisfies my most important requirement of offline editing capability. It is not as stable or feature rich as I would like it to be, but it is quite effective for using the ipad for word processing.
